As one of the world’s largest and most forward looking brokerages, Boatshed has been working in the newer Far East and Asian pleasure boat markets for some years.

It is estimated that by the end of this decade a significant part of the world’s growth in boating will come from these regions as more people buy and enjoy pleasure boats. Boatshed already has important strategic partnerships with key businesses and individuals in many of these areas, and in recent years has established offices in Asia, Langkawi, Penang and Phuket.

As part of this development, in December 2015 Boatshed Asia organised the first Maritime International Showcase Malaysia (MIS.M) event in Penang. Neil Chapman, Boatshed’s MD and founding broker, acted as the facilitator for this conference. This unique B2B / B2C maritime event consisted of an exhibition showcasing various products and services related to boating and marine lifestyles, and displays of boats and yachts for public viewing at Straits Quay Marina. MISM also featured a forum on boating in the Asia Pacific area covering a range of topics such as marina development, trends in the boat/yacht markets in the region, and on boat/yacht financing and insurance. On hand to officiate the event was Penang’s Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who reiterated the state government’s support and commitment to make Penang a boating and marine leisure centre of international class and prominence.

On day two of the MIS.M event a "grow leisure forum" was held which included a range of speakers from aeronautical and marine companies from the US, Thailand and Malaysia.

Following the event in Malaysia a number of ongoing discussions are being held regarding Boatshed’s development in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and a new location in Thailand.
